High Hazels Pit

 

High Hazels Colliery - High Hazels No 3 pit - to avoid confusion, was the eastern pit of Waverley Collieries belonging to the Nunnery Coal Company of Nether Edge, Sheffield.

High Hazels Colliery Catcliffe, was owned by Thomas Coupland Hounsfield, a merchant, resident in Paris,until 1900 when he leased it to the Waverley Coal Company, Ltd., Darnall, Sheffield.

It was only a small pit; in 1896 it is recorded there were 102 underground workers and 21 surface workers. The Manager was W. Drinnan, and the under manager T. Green.
