Treeton: As it is and as it was
Treeton is just as old and new as it looks. Its ancient church, in the belfry of which the Curfew is still rung, gives the village the appearance of antiquity, which is not deceptive, while its well managed colliery and its excellent public services, which includes public lighting by electricity - Treeton was the first village in England to utilise electricity for street lighting - give it a touch of progressive modernity.
Treeton is pardonably proud of itself - of its people, who have brought distinction to themselves and to the village, and of its loyalty to the Throne.
No happy event in which the House of Windsor is directly interested is allowed to pass unnoticed and unmarked by the people of Treeton, who today will joyously celebrate the Coronation of George VI and Queen Elizabeth and say with sincere heartiness.
GOD SAVE THE KING AND QUEEN
