It is recorded that for the celebrations on 21st June, 1887 of the Jubilee of Queen Victoria - the longest-reigning British monarch, the village was decorated with Venetian masts and garlands from one end of the village to the other.

A 'Meat Tea' was provided in the Board School for upwards of 500 people. This was followed by musical entertainment in the evening. A large platform was erected in front of the gates of Treeton Hall. Front Street was illuminated with chinese lanterns and the Church Tower aglow with lighted colliery lamps.
