Treeton Baptist Church

GARDEN PARTY The annual garden party and crowning of the Rose Queen in connection with the Treeton Baptist Church was held in the Church grounds on Saturday. Mr. G. E. Jennett, of Sheffield, presided, and it was announced by Robert Spink that the Treeton Baptist branch of the Girls’ Auxiliary had elected Barbara Billingsley as their Rose Queen and that she would be crowned by Mrs. G. Perry.

In the procession to the 'Throne', Miss Sadie Willetts the retiring Queen, was attended by Maureen Rollinson, Rosaline Welch, Jean Smith, and Gladys Pyott as train-bearers. A bodyguard of soldiers for the Queens was formed by Terry Bates, James Taylor, Arthur Shelton, Gerald Pawson, Wilfred Stewart, William Taylor, Royce Bates, Barry Brookes, Malcolm Allsopp, Peter Perry, Allan Billingsley, Raymond Ellis and Garry Dannatt.

The Queen, Barbara Billingsley, was attended by :

Train-bearers: Harold Phillips, Roy Hoff, Silvia Cox, and Margaret Bates
Ladies-in-waiting: Marion Perry, Enid Phillips, Thelma Ellis, Shirley Brookes, Barbara Stewart, Marjory Smith, June Rollinson, Dorothy Avelin, Joan Cowley, Barbara Smith, Nancy Avelin, Jean Ellis, Doreen Hilton, Helen Thompson, Jean Phillips, and Maureen Sheldon
Dancing maids: Margaret Brookes, Maxine Shaw, Sheila Pawson, Maureen Allsopp, Ida Phillips, Joyce Phillips, Ann Spencer, Pam Hallatt, Margaret Hilton
Crown bearers: Frederick Thompson
Petal throwers: June Dannatt, Beryl Smith

After the coronation Pat Smith presented Mrs. Perry with a bouquet. The Queen afterwards bestowed upon Robert Spinks a knighthood of the most Honourable Order of the Sunday School. During the afternoon dances and action songs were given by the children, who had been trained by Mrs. W. C. Spencer, Mrs. H. Manship, and Miss B. Manship, with Miss M. Hoff as pianist.

Various stalls added to the entertainment, stall holders being: Mrs. W. R. Fox and Mrs. Willis (miscellaneous); Mrs. L. B. Thomas and Mrs. F. Pawson (fancy goods); Mr. P. Brookes, and Miss B. Manship (fishing); Mrs. W. C. Spencer (Houp-la); Mr. B. Billingsley (darts); Mrs. B. Billingsley (bagatelle). Teas were served by members of the Sisterhood.

Each child taking part was presented with a bag of sweets by Mr. W. R Fox.
