William Potter is listed in the Hearth Tax of 1672

 

Thomas Rawson born 1665, of Barley Hole, in the Chapelry of Wentworth, tanner, (buried. 23 May 1728, Ecclesfield,) married Hannah Swyft (Died 24 Jun 1714 at Ecclesfield) on 7 Sep 1690 at Ecclesfield. Thomas was the son of Robert Rawson of Wards End(1621-1666) and Mary Rawson.

Thomas and Hannah (Nee Swyfte) Rawson had a daughter Hannah Rawson (1699-1771),born 1699, Barley Hole, Wentworth, Yorkshire.

Hannah Rawson married 10 JUL 1734, at Ecclesfield to Peter Birks (1707-1757) . They had 5 children including Peter Birks (1737-1793), born 1737 who married Hannah Potter on 18 MAR 1762, at Treeton.

Hannah Potter was born about 1745,in Treeton, daughter of John Potter.

Peter Birks and Hannah (Nee Potter) Birks had 4 children including another Peter (1766-1817) born 1766 who married Elizabeth Potter (1768-1836) 18 NOV 1790, at Handsworth. They had 6 children including Peter Potter Birks.

Hannah Birks (Nee Potter) died 20 DEC 1775, and was buried at Handsworth.

Elizabeth Birks (Nee Potter) died 4 AUG 1836, and was buried at Handsworth.

Peter Potter Birks married twice. M(1) Margaret HODGSON on 24 JUN 1824, Handsworth. M(2) Sarah STANIFORTH in JUN 1832,at Sheffield. In 1833 Peter Potter Birks(1801-1861) was a tanner living in Woodhouse

Children of John POTTER (d.1763) yeoman, married Elizabeth, Children born Treeton:

John Potter yeoman, was the grandson of Mary Burnley and married to Elizabeth Potter

John Burnley of Moorgate Rotherham, butcher owned 2 shops in Ratten Row Rotherham (part of the estate of William Malim). After his death in 1737, Mary Burnley, his widow gifted the 2 shops to John Potter jnr. of Treeton, husbandman (her grandson). In 1750 John Potter leased the property to a Thomas Spence of Rotherham, barber and peruque maker. - for 10 years at £3 p.a.

By 1763 Elizabeth Potter was a widow and the settlement of the property went to her son, William Potter.

on 22 Nov 1803 John Potter of Treeton, yeoman acquired the lease for 21 years of messuage in Treeton, the Sewer Butts and Fields, etc, at a rentof £176, two boon work days.
