Cawthorne family of Hackenthorpe and Catcliffe

 

George Cawthorne is shown on Census records as born 1823 at Darfield, Barnsley Yorkshire Elizabeth (nee WILSON) born, 1829 at Misson (near Bawtry), Yorkshire, although the 1871 Census has her as born 1831 at Tuxford, Nottinghamshire about 20 miles away. The 1881 census records she was born Nottingham, 1831.

 

George CAWTHORNE, Blacksmith, was the son of Stephen CAWTHORNE, Blacksmith, who married Elizabeth WILSON in March 1847 at Ecclesfield.

In 1881 some of the family - George and Elizabeth, Randal and Ernest Stephen were living at 38 Chippingham St, Attercliffe Cum Darnall, Sheffield.

Sophia married at Darnall Parish Church, Sheffield to to David WRIGHT on 27 Feb 1873 and had her own children.

David Wright, a Wood Turner was born in Tickhill in 1850, he was the son of John Wright, also a Wood Turner. Witnesses at the wedding: Hannah Wright and William Cawthorne.

In 1881 David and Sophia were living at 3 Hothersall St, Broughton In Salford, Lancashire with their children:

 

Notes re Elizabeth WILSON - Elizabeth had a brother Randal WILSON.
Elizabeth's father William WILSON is shown in Census records as born 1802, Finningley, Yorkshire.
Her mother Mary HORTON ? is shown born 1806 or 1807 in Misson, Nottinghamshire

 

Notes re Cawthorne. - It is thought that George's parents Stephen CAWTHORNE and possibly a Maria, were in the 1820 s in Wath-on-Dearne and South Kirby.
