CORONATION CELEBRATIONS - Treeton turned out in force on Thursday evening to witness the commencement of the Coronation celebrations. The event was a travelling show, organised by the Entertainments Committee, in which the artistes were young people of the village. The stage, a highly decorated dray, was taken round the village and met with a great reception at every stop, especially from the old people whose movements are limited. Appropriate Coronation songs were sung, and the people were ready to join in. The items included, Treeton Fair, a humerous version of Widdicombe Fair, in which the local councillors were given much publicity; Tally Ho, in which Roy Cox, Dave Harper and Peter Harper were ably assisted by Arthur Parrott; Robert Spink and Ken Tinkler gave their version of Biddy and Fanny in crosswords; exhibitions of country dancing were given by Misses Carol Britton, Patricia Thompson, Joan Harper, Marion Smith, Edith Hunter, Jean Plummer, Dorian Cummins, Terence Bates, Maurice Britton, Keith Havard, and Gordon Johnson, and others taking part in the singing were Misses Margaret Thompson, Margaret Smith, Barbara Harvey and Derek Hitchen. Gordon Johnson and Peter Harper were the accompanists. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Havard were the producers; PC Preston and Special Constable W. Bawcutt were the marshalls for the parade, assisted by Mr. G. Parrott. At the conclusion of the tour, Mr. J. W. Havard expressed thanks to all who had contributed to the success of the show, which closed with the singing of The National Anthem.
