Treeton Methodist Social Club Magazines
VOL.1. NO.1. MAY 1946
FOREWORD
I am very pleased to be able to write a foreword to this first
magazine of the Social Club. The publication of a magazine - and
its contents - are further examples of the lively and venturesome
spirit which has taken us so successfully through our first
winter season. We are all agreed that the Club has been a
success, and it might be valuable to look briefly at the
reasons.
The first is the happy tradition of a previous Treeton
Methodist Social Club -
'others have laboured and we have entered into- their
labours' - at least, we have taken over some of their
equipment, and much of our Inspiration from the pre-war Club; and
we are now glad to be welcoming former members as they return to
civilian life again.
Secondly, the Club has been entirely self-contained. We have raised our own funds, largely by subscriptions; We have elected our own committee; we have arranged our own activities. The Club may well congratulate itself on this achievement. With little or no previous experience he members have had the responsibilities of "self-government" thrust upon them, and have risen to the occasion magnificently. As some of the remarks in this magazine indicate, they have discovered committee-work is not an unmixed pleasure - though I ought to add it is one of the happiest committees I have ever worked with. It has also bean good to see the keenness and co-operation which exists throughout the Club.
Finally, and most important of all, the Club has linked itself closely to the life and fellowship of the church; it has been clear from the beginning of the Club that members have appreciated that the Christian faith is the sat setting for social, and all other human activities; This is reflected in the rules of the Club; in our joining the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs; and in the "Epilogue" held regularly every Saturday evening.
Such are the reasons for our successful beginning; they also give us high hopes for the future. Arrangements for summer activities are now being made, and with the experience we have gained we have great ideas for next winter would like to end, in conclusion, that I have greatly enjoyed working with the Club, and that I look forward with them to further good times ahead.

OUR NEW MINISTER
In a place that's next to Nowhere,
Where Treeton Social Clubites grow,
There came a brand new Minister
Whom all of you will know.
He set everyone a-flutter 'cause he's
Only Twentyseven,
And some of them really thought
He'd been sent to then from Heaven.
Then someone found he had. a Sweetheart
So the excitement died away,
Only to be renewed again,
T'was his SISTER come to stay.
