The Frost Family

Anthony (1772-1841) and Elizabeth Frost were from Sheldon in Derbyshire - situated 3 miles west of Bakewell.

It is not known when they moved to Yorkshire, their first son was born at Handsworth in 1799; in 1841 they was living at Woodthorpe, Handsworth, where Anthony was employed as a gardener for Hugh Parker, Esq. Although his father and grandfather were christened in Bakewell, it is thought they lived in Sheldon - there are a lot of Frosts in the church graveyard there. Sheldon churchyard was not concecrated as a burial ground until 1853. Prior to this burials are known to have taken place at both Chelmorton and Bakewell.

Anthony and Elizabeth had five children, including James who was born in 1813.

The 1841 census shows James Frost (1813-1889) and Ellen, his wife, aged 25, Anthony aged 2 years and John aged 4 months living at Beighton, Orgreave, West Riding of Yorkshire

The 1871 census shows James Frost, aged 55, head of family, a Colliery Clerk, born at Wickersley, living in a cottage at Orgreave with 3 sons and 2 daughters :
