Alfred CAWTHORNE married Annie POXTON in June 1874 at Sheffield. He died in March 1881. In the census of 1881, Annie, head of family, aged 21 was living at 4 Colliers Row, Sheffield with a daughter Mary CAWTHORNE aged 7 months.

Notes
Herbert Cawthorne was born on the 22nd October, 1915. He was the fifth child of Herbert Cawthorne (22/01/79- 1935) and Hilda Mary Walker.
He served in the Army for five and a half years, during the African campaign and afterwards in France and Belgium. While here, he was wounded, during 1944/45 and he demobilised in September, 1946.
Herbert was a member of the Treeton branch of the British Legion.
After leaving the army he restarted work as a surface worker at Treeton colliery, where he was employed prior to call-up.
He never married, but it was noted that he had a fiancee - Miss Williams.
He died in 1947, aged 31 years.
The interment took place at Treeton cemetery following a service conducted by the Rev. A. E. Searle-Barnes in St. Helen's Church.
