Memories
A tribute to Father
An affectonate father and good
His life was both honest and true
Should this tribute from him be withheld
Twould be robbing the good of the deed
As faithful a husband he was
As ever to woman God gave
He studied his duty to do
And his children to train in good ways.
In the providence of God over all
He early a widower became
And in regards to his children's requests
He refused to marry again
He loved in his bible to read
And pour over the pages sublime
Which told of the love of his Lord
And the sacrifice made in due time
To the church of his choice he adhered
And he regularly wended his way
And as soon as the sabbath returned
In his place he was found on that day
An Oddfellow for full fifty years
To the Manchester Unity joined
And he told of the advantage to all
He became in her annals combined
He laboured to promote its wellbeing
Knowing well where the banner was spread
The sick and the helpless relieved
By the succour and comfort it gave
In the autumn of eighteen eighty nine
Affliction attacked his frame
Notifying that soon he must go
The way appointed for men
He lingered awhile to review
His life and his labor below
And there he was summoned to rest
For God had appointed it so
He has gone to his rest much beloved
By his children relatives and friends
But we hope soon to meet him above
In the world where friendship never ends
