Treeton Stories was published in Christmas 2002,. The memories in this book are the tip of an iceberg. The words of our contributors have not been altered or changed. Each story is different.
Whether they are historical fact is up to you to decide. Whatever, they give you a good flavour of Treeton in the 1930s and 1940s that no history textbook could provide. We would have liked to talk to more people. Hopefully these stories will just be the beginning.
The creation of this book involved a lot of work for a number of people. Our interviewers – John Wilson, Hedley Frost and Steve Ruffle- have visited people and listened to their amazing stories. Our 3 transcribers – Nick Goddard, Jean Noble and Steve Ruffle – have spent long hours listening and writing out these stories word for word. Members of the editorial committee – Hedley and Thelma Frost, Derek and Monica Walker, Pauline Wilson and Steve Ruffle – have sifted out the mass of material to produce the stories. Most important of all have been our contributors. They have been the historical experts without which there would have been no book. They are Derek Walker, Jean and Mick Noble, Pam Marsh, Arthur Moore, Fred Higginbottom, Walt Farmer, Hedley Frost and Bessie Roys.
Gleanings and Recollections is the latest publication by the Treeton Local History Group, comprising a wide collection of short articles by the late Tom Rossington carefully selected and edited by our Archives Officer, Hedley Frost. This 40 page book include a variety of fascinating stories and articles from Treeton's rich and varied past.
As well as material from the talented and knowledgable pen of Tom Rossington, this book includes contributions from other history group members Carol Goy,Jackie Hall John Fisher and the editor Hedley Frost. 24 minature photos also accompany the text.
The book is normally sold for £4.50 but thanks to a small grant from Treeton Partnership, it can now be purchased for the price of £4.00
