John was born in Conisbrough and he married Martha Widowson at Treeton on 29 June 1829. Martha born 1811 in Treeton was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Nee Greaves) Widowson.
It is thought that the Travis family lived at 13 Front Street, a house which burnt down many years ago. The house was in a yard accessed through the opening between the Post Office (No. 15) and what is now a hair dressing and beauty salon.
It is noted Martha was not listed in 1871 census and John not listed in 1881 census - presumed they both died young.

There is War Memorial in the old churchyard overlooking the main road.
It is in memory of Ernest Manship who died in the Boer War.

On closer inspection, the name C. Travis is to be found at the bottom left of the memorial. It seems therefore, that Charles Travis created the Boer War Memorial.
Charles Wm Travis (Stonemason) had a son - also called Charles. Charles Jr. moved to Darnall at some stage, - probably with his father most likely to be closer to the business.
In Darnall, Charles Jr. owned and operated a fish and chip shop.
