About The Moody Family
In 1835, at
the age of 38, William Moody, a Lincolnshire farmer, left Wickenby in Lincolnshire with his wife Sarah (Nee Moss) and family, and came to live in
Treeton.
He played an important role in the development of the Wesleyan Movement at Treeton. It was in 1850 that cottage meetings, under his direction, began at Treeton with 15 members.
Children of William and Sarah Moody:
- William, Christening: 04 FEB 1828 Wickenby, Lincolnshire. He died 7th April 1848 age 20 years and is buried in Treeton churchyard

Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Brightmore (c.1808 Catcliffe) and Hannah (c.1817) (Nee White). Not sure at this stage, where Thomas fits in the Brightmore Tree.
George Moody (c 1832) married Anne Elizabeth Foers (c 1842) at Whiston Parish Church on 02/08/1865. They had 2 daughters both christened at Treeton: Ann Foers Moody (c 1866) and Catherine (c 1868)
Francis Moody (c 1834) Francis, initially attended both school and Sunday School at Catcliffe, as the National School at Treeton was not built until 1850. He married Mary at the age of 22 and, although he regularly attended services at Catcliffe Wesleyan chapel, he was elected People’s Churchwarden at Treeton Parish Church.

After the death of his father in 1871, he had been, and continued to be, a member of the School Board elected in 1876, and he died on the 3rd September 1920 at the age of 86.

A Mr. G. Moody, presumably the second son of William (c 1828) above, was one of the instigators in subscribing and erecting the Methodist Chapel on Wood Lane.
Note:A Sarah Law, daughter of Isaac Law, a Treeton farmer, married a William Moody who took over the running of Old Flatts Farm, Treeton in 1889
The 1881 census shows Richard Moody (b 1841) from Treeton and his wife Sarah Staniforth Nee Foers (b 1837 Whiston) is farming 130 acres of land at Guilthwaite, Rotherham. Their children:
