SPORTS TALK

It had to come, Radley's made the top score in club cricket. In the match played at Grenoside against R, Spinks workmates, Alan shewed no mercy in his score of 43, four boundaries in concussion, or is it succession. The opponents scored 91 for 5 wickets, which included 26 by a Mr. Whippey and 39 by the respected boss of the office Mr. C. Hides. Our boys replied with 81 for 7. It was a grand evenings sport and we thank the opponents for an grand game.

But lets turn to the ladies, The idea of cricket caught up with them and we had to stand on one side. After much coaching and secret planning they accepted the challenge of Burntwood Crescent and beat them, by 37 to 19. Success was theirs. They had to play a return match and again won by 77 for 6 declared, to 63. The clubs opening pair J. Dean (24) and Dorian Cummins (20) scoring 48 before being parted. This wasn't enough, they wanted a match with the South Africans, but had to be satisfied with playing the Treeton C.C. - Poor consolation.

This was lost by 67 to 91. We’ve heard they have gone into retirement. But we believe that when they’ve removed all the bruises, and got those joints (not jaws) in working order again they’ll tackle all comers. One point worth noting, they’ve a large following. Is it the cricket or is it the glamour?

We were sorry to hear of the passing away of Mr. Arthur Clegg of Dodworth near Barnsley. With his brother Mr H. Clegg, he has assisted in many of our Sunday School anniversaries by way of his singing and composing of hymns. We send our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Clegg and the family.
