The Skelton Family

Samuel Milbourne, of Rotherham married Mary Skelton of Treeton, 10th June, 1833 at Rotherham.

Alexander J. Skelton was the son of Elizabeth and James Skelton, a farmer. He was born about 1865. He lived with his wife Hannah, at West View, Front Street, Treeton.

Hannah Skelton born in Treeton was the daughter of John Foster Walker and Harriet Cawthorne. She was born in 1877 and died in 1942.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, to which she had been attached all her life. She was also a member of the Old Folks Treat Committee.

They had four children:

THE LATE MRS. A. SKELTON. The death occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning of Mrs. Hannah Skelton, wife of Mr. A. Skelton of Front Street, Treeton. The deceased who was 66 years of age was born in Treeton. Prior to the interment which took place on Tuesday at Treeton Cemetery, a service was conducted in the Methodist Church by the Rev. R. T. Williams, who also officiated at the graveside. The mourners included:


The bearers, all nephews, were Messrs. C. V. Rossington, H. Bloom, W. Bloom, G. Bloom, A. Cawthorne, J. Maxfield, T. Walker and J. Walker.

Mr. A. Skelton and family wish to thank relatives, friends, the doctor and nurse for their kind sympathy and floral tributes in their sad bereavement

Gladys Skelton
Gladys Skelton , was the only one of the children to marry - to a Mr. J. Davies in 1936/37 at Treeton Methodist Church. They had three children, all boys. Gladys died on 5th March, 1988.

John Leslie Davies died on 23rd August, 1982.

Note; Gladys was the second wife of John, he was first married to a Bessie Smith.
