The Sinclair Family

Gilbert Scott Sinclair was born around 1872 and worked as a pattern maker or fitter at Treeton Colliery. He died in 1944.

He was married twice - first wife Mary Jones with whom he had 4 children. Mary appears to have moved from Wales with at least two of her sisters Marian and Helen.

Children of Gilbert and Mary:

Gilbert married the second time to Elizabeth Beatrice (born 12.09.1893?) - she seems to have come from a Sheffield family called Gray.

Children of Gilbert and Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Beatrice died in 1949.

It has been suggested that Gilbert Scott Sinclair was born in the Forest of Dean or Drybrook. His children recall being told that he played with the children of 'the gentry' and his father may have been a vet. The family also believe that at least for a time he worked for Home and Colonial Stores.

Research suggests that Gilbert may have changed his name as the 1901 census shows a Gilbert S. Scott of the same age, born in Forest of Dean, living at Norton where Mary Jones, born in Wales, was also living in Norton in 1901.

The 1901 Census for Norton Woodseats, Derbyshire showing Gilbert S. Scott aged 28, a mechanical engineer, living at 43 Clarke Rd Norton Woodseats, Derbyshire born at Forest of Dean, Gloucester

The 1901 Census shows Mary Edith Jones, a servant aged 28 living at 119 Scarbro Road, Norton. She was born at Anglesea Pennactte, Wales.

It would be really helpful if anyone who had any information about the family could Email Sandra
