Albert Cox
Albert Edward Harrison Cox
was born on 24th June, 1917 in Treeton.
He joined Sheffield United in April, 1935 and his debut was on 20th February, 1936 - United won Blackpool -
final score was United 1 Blackpool 0.
He played in the FA Cup semi final of that year (1936 United 2 Fulham 1 at Molineux) but did not play in the Final.
After the War he was a regular for United until 1952.
His final league game for United was on 1st March, 1952, the final score was, Rotherham 3 United 1; later on 8th March, 1952 in FA Cup - United 0 Chelsea 1; and then in Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup on 10th May 1952 - Rotherham 1 United 3.
His record of appearances for Sheffield United was:

- County Cup 10
- WW2 31 - 1 goal
The WW2 football games were not official league games - the Football League was stopped during the War and restarted in 1946 -47 - but were Regional Leagues.
He started his career with Woodhouse Mill Welfare, he joined United April 1935 playing left-back. During the War he played for a Service team, the Wanderers, in Egypt. He returned to England in 1943 and played for United and some games for Fulham - during the War players often played for 'other' teams near to where they were stationed.
After leaving United he joined Halifax Town for two seasons (played 53 league games, 1 goal) and then returned to join Sheffield United coaching staff.
Then he took a pub at Woodhouse, the Brunswick Hotel, on the corner of Tilford Road and Station Road
He continued to 'scout' for United even in the late 1950's and early 1960's and later took a village store in Treeton.
